Work began on the new school building in February 2012. It is being built in traditional Sikkimese style using local labour. The total cost of construction is estimated at approx. € 6,000 and is borne solely by donations. Most of this money has been provided by the UK-based NGO HELP (Himalayan Education Lifeline Programme).

In addition to providing much-needed additional classrooms, the new building has two main advantages: it is situated at a higher elevation and therefore less prone to flooding, its classrooms will be larger and brighter than those in the old building.
