Vidya Sagar Gyanpeeth school currently caters for 109 children aged 4 to 12. Most of the pupils come from Tathang and neighbouring villages, and travel to school on foot or by shared jeep (the narrow mountain roads in Sikkim are not suitable for buses). About 40 children are resident at the school, either because their families live too far away or because they are orphans.
